Abstract
Different techniques for the reduction of thc magnetic field arising from either
overhead lines or buried cables are presented, based on the use of active
conductors for the compensation.
Thc optimal choice of the currents to bc driven in the con~pensation wires is
attained by means of a genetic algorithm, which compares favourably ~ i t h
deterministic algorithms In terms of accuracy and computational costs.
The procedure may be applied to an) kind of source configuration, with
appropriate modifications. ensuring significant magnetic field reductions.
