Abstract
In this study authors focus on traffic dynamics and its impact on the pollutants dispersion in two street canyons forming an intersection equipped with traffic lights. A model based on Eulerian - Lagrangian approach to moving objects has been developed and integrated into a commercial CFD code StarCD. Inclusion of traffic dynamic leads to a better description of dispersion processes of pollutants in an intersection, where peak values of pollutant concentrations are often located. Informations about traffic situation were obtained from in-situ measurement. Results of CFD predictions of NO, concentrations are compared with measurements acquired from an automatic monitoring station located in the intersection.
1 Introduction
Dispersion of pollutants originating from traffic is directly connected with the geometry of the urban area and traffic conditions. The urban area is mostly heavily built-up area and buildings and other obstacles may significantly influence local concentrations. Moving vehicles enhance both micro- and macro- mixing processes in their surrounding. Without taking account of traffic will lead to neglecting one of the most important phenomenon that influence mixing processes in the proximity of traffic paths. Influence of traffic is increasing namely in situation of very low wind speed.
