Abstract
The main aim of an ongoing research project is to demonstrate the effectiveness
of a new oil slick containment system. The new system provides the possibility
to divide the surrounded oil slick in several smaller circles and so to increase the
thickness of the oil slick inside. In the present study, some important design
features of the oil confinement system will be discussed based on known
properties of spilled oil. In order to describe the behavior of the oil containment
system, preliminary analytical developments have been performed focusing first
on hydrostatic behavior of floating oil booms. The governing equilibrium
equations have been investigated by a parametric analysis. The parametric
