Abstract
The forest is the natural lung of any region. On the one hand its presence is
related to weather patterns, rain increment and evaporation reduction. On the
other hand, the forest impacts quite significantly on the water production in the
region. The abundance of vegetation produces more opportunities for the water
infiltration. The loss of forest also leads to a loss of soil, a reduction in the time
of concentration of the basin and a change in the recharge volume.
This paper presents an analysis of the temporal loss of the forest of \“El
Quelite” basin, located in the Mexican state of Sinaloa and its implications on
the water budget taking into consideration the period of 1973 to 2000.
The hydrological model of the basin was built on the HEC-HMS system. The
system was properly calibrat
