Phytoremediation In Arsenic-contaminated Soil

Abstract
Phytoextraction, a plant-based alternative and/or complementary technology
used to remedy contaminated soil, has been the focus of attention due to its
potential utilization in brownfield areas. The applicability of phytoremediation
was evaluated on soil from a brownfield site contaminated by As. Among the
technological alternatives, assisted phytoextraction is a strategy for enhancing
the bioavailability of contaminants for subsequent plant uptake, by applying
chemical additives to the soil. The potential of phosphate fertilizer
(biammonium phosphate) for enhancing As availability and uptake by plants
(Lupinus albus), was evaluated on the microcosm scale. Lupin was grown on Ascontaminated
soil (533 mg kg–1) collected from a manufactured gas plant (MGP
