Case Histories And Comparisons Of Two
"Brownfields" Sites In Kansas And Indiana

Abstract
Case studies concerning the remediation and redevelopment of two contaminated
sites in the USA (Gilbert-Mosley Site in Kansas and Continental Steel Site in
Indiana) show that at each of the sites common approaches and elements
contributed to the successful cleanup and development. These include:
�� Innovative and cost saving groundwater remediation approaches including
alternate cleanup goals and waivers.
�� Integrated total site solutions allowing for cost saving approaches and
synergism between individual areas of the site.
�� Innovative and cost saving remediation techniques such as horizontal
drilling.
�� Site specific cleanup goals that resulted in cost savings.
�� Responsible parties, developers, and regulatory authorities whom were
willing to evaluate i
