Abstract

Barriers to effective public participation often hamper community decisionmaking processes in the United States. While some present-day government decision-making processes are inclusive and creatively engage stakeholders, others by the nature of their design, process and implementation are exclusionary. What are the political, socio-economic, psychological and the lack thereof -- affect a government’s ability to arrive at high quality, meaningful decisions on land use proposals?
