The Criterion Of Noise Attenuation By Hedges

Abstract
This investigation examined the noise attenuation effect of five hedges, and
determined the quantitative criterion of noise attenuation by hedges. The
amplifier was placed in front of the hedges, while the noise meter was placed at
various heights and distances behind the hedges. Subtracting the sound pressure
level at each measurement site on hedges from that on open ground obtains the
net reduction effect of hedges, namely, relative attenuation. The parameters
included visibility, height and width of hedge, received and noise source height,
and the distance between noise source and receiver. The multiple regressive
model demonstrated that the order of importance for the factors was tree
visibility, width, height, received and noise source height, and distance between
