Abstract

Reinforced concrete structures are commonly designed, for non-slender members, using elastic analysis methods assuming a fully effective cross- section. In this study the effects of geometric nonlinearity, with and without cracking of the concrete cross-section under tension, are investigated. The theory underlying geometric nonlinear analysis, stability functions, and reduction of the effective stiffness of concrete members due to cracking is presented. A method of analysis, incorporating these effects for planar concrete structures, is proposed and a computer program developed. The computer program is used to perform two parametric studies
