Abstract

This study compares experimental four points bending of a reinforced concrete beam, strengthened with carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) sheets, and a 2D non linear finite element (FE) simulation. The concrete model is based on a plasticity and a smeared crack approach. Bond-slip interaction between composite and concrete, which is of great importance in this type of structure, is modelled here using special continuous contact elements. A reasonably good agreement has been found between the numerical and experimental results. 1 Introduction Experience has shown that reinforced concrete structures, exposed to severe environmental attacks such as alkali-silica reaction or corrosion, to cycli
