Abstract
An attempt is made to assess the possibility of generation of secondary
microcracks when rock is under the action of fluids in the earth's crust.
Recrystallization processes at grain boundaries followed by cracking are
associated with the Rehbinder process. The model of wedging a semi-infinite
crack by the constant-thickness wedge is chosen as a mechanical model.
Secondary craclang can be described in terms of the Neuber-Novozhilov type of
brittle strength criterion. Instability regions of the crack-wedge system that are
defined by the wedge thickness and depth of crack location have been
constructed.
