Abstract

The stress and strain distributions across the necked section of tensile specimens is needed for a real stress-strain characterization of ductile materials in the highly deformed phase of their life The better method currently available to evaluate the above distributions comes from Bridgman [I], which gives material curves affected by an error ranging from 3% to more than 10%. Furthermore, the application of this method requires a considerable amount of work in measuring the curvature radii of the necking profile at different stages of each tensile test. In this paper a new material-independent model for the solut~on of the necking problem is presented, based on the matching of experimental observations and numerical analyses.. The stress and strain distributions on the neck are derived accor
