Automated Accuracy Estimates For DEM

Abstract
The main aim of this study is to introduce a technique for assessing Digital
Elevation Models (OEMs) derived from LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging)-
based Digital Surface Models (DSMs). The accuracy estimates based on the
Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) for the DEM at various grid resolutions are
analysed. It is found that in the absence of above-surface features on the DEM,
the computed RMSE at various grid resolutions for the DEM are almost constant.
The technique outlined in this study will confirm the non-existence of above-
surface features on the derived DEM to a certain extent, and consequently obtain
the accuracy estimates for the derived DEM at various grid resolutions.
