Abstract
This paper focuses on the development of a software tool for designing rela- tional databases. The development being reported is based on a design method- ology using the entity-relationship and relational data models. The main result obtained is a knowledge base incorporating theoretical and empirical knowledge of the entity-relationship and relational models, the view integration process, the translation from the entity-relationship model to the relational model, the nor- malization of relations and the optimization of logical database schemas.
