Abstract

IDC-UK is an organisation, of about 30 people, that provides hardware and software documentation to Digital Equipment Corporation. This paper describes the events that made the redesign of our quality system necessary. It describes how a combination of ISO 9001 and SEI techniques was used to create a quality system that fitted the organisation's new and changing needs. It also describes how the quality system was implemented in a way that accelerated the organisation's move towards self managed teams, and resulted in a more effective use of management skills than in direct daily supervision.
