Abstract

In buried, pile-supported sewer lines, made of ductile cast iron, significant stress concentrations occur in the pipes in the vicinity of the supports on the piles. In order to check a finite element model for such pipe lines, which takes into account geometrical nonlinearity and elastic-plastic material be- havior of the ductile cast iron, measurements in the laboratory as well as measurements on a construction site have been carried out. The relatively sophisticated numerical model, verified by means of experimental investiga- tions, serves as the basis for developing design tables for such pile-supported buried sewer lines. 1 Introduction Buried sewer lines, made of ductile cast iron and supported on piles, serve as a technical reliable and econo
