Abstract
The Boundary Element Method (BEM) is used to compute the three-dimensional
pressure field generated by a point pressure source in the vicinity of an infinite
cylindrical solid element submerged in an inviscid fluid medium. The problem is
solved in the frequency domain and the responses in the time domain are
obtained by applying an inverse Fast Fourier Transform using a Ricker pulse as a
dynamic excitation source. This model is used to study the behaviour of the
guided wave modes in the close vicinity of the cylindrical inclusion. The
irregularity of the cylindrical inclusion cross-section is one variable analysed.
Frequency vs axial-wave number responses and time domain responses are both
calculated. Complex frequencies are used to avoid aliasing phenome
