Abstract
The BEM and a genetic algorithm are used to solve the so-called "time-to-
arrival" problem in which an unknown surface heat flux is reconstructed given
limited temporal information regarding the surface temperature evolution.
1. Introduction
In this paper, we propose to solve an inverse problem which can be construed as
reconstructing the heat flux at a surface given information of the time it took for a
measuring point to reach a characteristic temperature. This problem can thus be
termed the time-to-arrival problem. The application for which this inverse
problem is formulated arises in the use of narrow-band Thermochromic Liquid
Crystal (TLC) [1] or Phase Change Materials (PCM) coatings thermography
