Abstract
This paper examines the axisymmetric elastostatic problem of the
separation at a precompressed smooth elastic interface, induced by the
action of a doublet of Boussinesq-type concentrated forces. The analysis of
the problem focuses on the determination of the zone of separation. The
moving boundary nature of the problem stems from the fact that the extent
of separation is governed by the magnitudes of the concentrated forces, the
precompression and the elasticity characteristics of the system.
