Abstract
There are plenty of numerical methods that enable engineers and researchers
to compute stress and strain states in soil medium and in tunnel lining. The
classical methods (FEM, BEM, etc.) possess well-known disadvantages.
The distinct methods, such as PFC (particle flow code), FLAG, static ver-
sion of the PFC, etc., are burdened by errors, which follow from uncertain
mechanical properties of contact conditions.
In this paper, a new concept will be introduced starting with the BEM
(this method could be the best method for most of moving boundary prob-
lems). The region in front of the tunnel heading is split into two parts: the
stable part and the moving part, which is admissible to slip into the tun-
nel. Similar idea, but much simpler than here, is known from assessment
of slope stability. The movement of the moving part is control
