Abstract
Specifically flow conditions during the initial stage of a dambreak wave differ
from shallow water equations (SWE), which are usually applied as the basic
physical equations in numerical simulations on dambreak waves. To quantify the
deviation of shallow water equations from the actual dambreak wave's
propagation, experiments are conducted using a High-Speed-Measuring-System
providing frequencies up to 4500 frames/sec. In particular front positions and
front velocities are observed from the digital recordings. Since it has been shown
that varying numerical methods can cause different computational results,
numerical test series have also been carried out considering a finite element and
