Abstract
The identification of the stiffness properties of composite materials
structural components is seriously hampered by the anisotropy of the
material properties. Their anisotropic nature requires the determination of
different independent engineering constants like Young's moduli, shear
moduli, Poisson's ratios and other coupling coefficients. Traditional
experimental tests are cumbersome, time consuming and most of all
inadequate. In view of solving these problems, many authors have tried to
develop mixed numerical/experimental methods. Some of them are based on
the observation and modelling of their vibrational behaviour. The author
wants to show what the characteristics of these methods are, their potent
