Pressure Field Variation Analysis For The Detection Of Submerged Rigid Pipelines

Abstract
This work uses the variations in pressure fields originated by dilatational line loads to detect the presence and localization of pipelines submerged in a fluid channel. The problem is solved directly and the main features of the wave pressure scattering are defined in order to obtain information that can be used to solve the inverse problem. A large number of computer simulation analyses are performed for a range of positions, sizes and number of pipelines. Responses are collected along a line of receivers placed perpendicularly to the axis of the pipelines. Both frequency and time domain plots are presented and discussed, illustrating certain wave-scattering properties of the pipelines.
The solution of the direct problem is obtained in the frequency domain using the Boundary Element Method to model the pipelines. The Green’s functions employed take into account the presence of the free surface and rigid floor of the channel, avoiding discretization of these boundaries. Time domain signatures are then achieved by applying an inverse Fourier Transform
