Abstract
Boundary integral equation methods are, on the surface, ideally suited for the
description of the motion of rigid particles in flowing concentrated suspensions.
However, several difficulties exist, the principal one being the treatment of the
flow in regions of fluid bounded by surfaces in close proximity to one another.
In such regions, the flow is not represented accurately, resulting in poor relative
velocity and macroscopic rheological behavior predictions.
Recently, analytic lubrication solutions describing the forces arising from the
relative motion between two particles have been used to correct the boundary integral
equation, with very promising results. The main difficulty found in that
approach lies in the evaluation of the lubrication forces. These are a linear function
