Abstract
The behavior of partitions when excited either by pressure loads or by impact
loads is analyzed by means of two numerical tools, namely, Green's functions
and the Boundary Element Method. Two models are used to help understand
sound transmission loss, impact sound insulation and the relation between them.
The first model assumes that a panel divides an infinite acoustic medium,
whereas the second model considers a clamped panel dividing two closed
acoustic spaces. The analysis is performed in the frequency domain using twodimensional
geometries excited by cylindrical line loads. Results are discussed
and compared with simplified expressions. The importance of certain features of
sound propagation, such as the coincidence effect, the stationary field and
