Abstract

Comparison of computational and experimental results in axi-symmetric supersonic turbulent flows Y. Noguchi Department of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering, University of Salford, Salford ABSTRACT Turbulent flows around an axi-symmetric body of revolution at supersonic speeds are calculated. The body has a waisted shape which gives a moderate pressure gradient to the flow. Detailed comparisons are made with extensive experimental measurements of Winter et al . [1] including detailed boundary layer data. The purpose of this exercise is to investigate the behaviour of the one of the most popularly used turbulence models ( Baldwi n-Lomax model) in applied aerodynamics and more recent model (Johnson-King model) in flow fields with moderate pressure gradients without separation. INTRODUCTION Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in applied aerodynamics has been advancing rapidly and more demanding cases ar
