Impact Behavior Of Hybrid Rubber Materials

Abstract
The impact resistance of hybrid gel-rubber materials is studied experimentally by
shooting bullets in order to collect the bullets after firing from the viewpoint of
preventing the lead pollution. The shooting test is conducted by using a rifle and
the residual velocity is measured in order to examine the effects of hybrid rubber
materials, temperature and bullet type on the rubber depth. The shooting process
of a bullet at the back face of rubber is also taken by the high-speed video.
Finally, the effect of a hybrid rubber-steel plate on stopping bullets is also
investigated.

1 Introduction
Recently environmental problems have increased with the development of
civilization and comfortable life-style of people. For instance, lead bullets after
shooting have influenced pollution of soil near a firing range [1, 2]. Therefore,
protective technology [3] has to solve the environmental pollution problems by
making use of industrial materials [4].
This paper presents an experimental approach for the collection method of
bullets by using various kinds of hybrid rubber materials for protection and
prevention of contamination of lead bullets at firing range.
First, the rubber depth of soft gel-rubber for stopping bullets is examined by
measuring the residual velocity after shooting bullet at the initial velocity about
700m/s. Herein, the shooting process of a bullet is taken by a high-speed video
