Optimum Design Of A Circular Digging Bucket

Abstract
Generally speaking, lightweight design has been remarkably requested for
various kinds of construction-machine parts from the view point of saving
energy and cost reduction etc. In particular, the circular-digging bucket has
enabled one to dig a circle in the ground by rotating the bucket. However, the
increase in weight of an added rotation system becomes a considerable problem,
that is, it causes imbalance between the front part and the rear part of the
construction machine during operation. In this research, the authors tried to
decrease the weight of the main bucket of the circular-digging medium-sized
bucket as far as possible whilst keeping the reliability. The main results obtained
in this analysis are as follows; (1) In the case of the main-bucket, it is desirable
to attach the reinforcement rim and additional reinforcement in each part in the
bucket. (2) The expected weight reduction ratio becomes 24.1% whilst keeping
the rigidity of the main-bucket. (3) There is a part where it is difficult to suppress
all of the stresses of these parts below an allowable stress. In actual use, it is
necessary to regularly maintain successively about the stress concentration parts
specified by this analysis.
1 Introduction
The designers of various kinds of machine-parts have been continuously
demanded to provide cost reduction and high performance year after year. The
circular-digging bucket has enabled one to dig a circle in the ground by rotating
