Abstract
The methodological approach for the evaluation of the safety level of the St. Mark's Basilica in Venice is presented. The exhaustive diag- nostic analysis of the monument and the definition of the appropriate restoration interventions are based on a sequential procedure includ- ing historical, geometrical and experimental surveys, the statement of % reliable mathematical model for the structural analysis and the installation of a monitoring system.
