Abstract
The hydro-ecological model which was used for the study of coastal pollution in the
Thermaikos Gulf is presented. It is composed by a wind-induced circulation model, and by the
diffusion-dispersion model of ten different quality parameters. These parameters are:
chlorophyll-a, organic nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, organic
and inorganic phosphorus, BOD, dissolved oxygen, and coliforms. The study of the results
revealed the great influence of the wind direction and of the values of the various coefficients
and pollutant sources, on the distribution of pollution loads in the Thermaikos Gulf.
