Abstract

Interaction of a warhead/projectile with a concrete target is a very complicated phenomena and no theory predicts practical and realistic results. The L/D ratio and CRH value of a concrete piercing bomb/warhead disillusion its designer to a great extent. A detailed experimental study was undertaken with a high velocity model warhead of CRH value one and an L/D ratio varying from 3 to 9 on concrete targets. Projectiles have been recorded ricocheting, penetrating or perforating the target. Critical values of impact angles for no-ricochet of projectile of different L/D ratios have been computed from the trial data. Values of critical angle of no-ricochet have been found to reduce exponentially with the L/D ratio and finally following an asymptotic trend. Damage inflicted on concrete targets due to impact of warhead mo
