Abstract
The anchorage strength of a continuous stirrup with double 90°anchors is
investigated focusing on the influence of lateral reinforcement strength, the
effect of varying development length, the reinforcement diameter, the covering
depth and the casting direction. Grade SD390 lateral bars with double anchors
reached the tensile strength while Grade USD 1275 almost yielded.
1 Introduction
To make a reinforced concrete column more seismic-resistant, not only the
exterior hoops but also inner hoops as shown in Figure 1 (a) should be arranged.
Hoops can be a cause of improper compaction of concrete due to congestion of
development length portions of 135°hooks. In Japan, closed welded lateral
reinforcement without hooks is used especially in high axial stress columns as
shown in Figure
