The Influence Of Wake Wash In Ports Operation

Abstract
Fast ferry market is currently one of the fastest growing sectors of the marine
industry. Usually high speed vessels' (HSV) routes are in shallow waters,
where long period waves become large amplitude waves inducing damages
in moored vessels, sea shores, docks, etc. We begin by explaining the ship
wave pattern, then we explain a method of analyzing this wave pattern
in terms of a spectrum, and we use Ursell's ray theory to propagate such
pattern in finite depth water. Finally, we talk about some recent issues of
wake wash: criteria, effects, regulations, etc.
1 Three-dimensional ship waves
From fig. 1, a plane wave can be expressed as:

superposing plane waves of different wavenum
