Abstract
The general use of containers for the multimodal transport of dangerous goods,
and particularly of the 20' and 40' dry-box type, is nowadays widely increasing.
If we rely on the rules of logic, and also on the evidence of results, we could
assure that claims due to damages on goods transported in 20' and 40' dry box
containers are increasing as they keep pace with the number of expeditions. A
high percentage of these claims are due to the fact that goods were wet or had
stains due to wetting in their packages when they were received.
This paper is based on the results of a descriptive study on the causes of
damages on goods provoked by lack of or deficient maintenance of containers.
