Study On The Interfacial Shear Strength Of
Bamboo Fiber Reinforced Plastics

Abstract
An investigation was performed on the interfacial control of bamboo fiber bundles reinforced maleic anhydride polypropylene (MAPP) composite system using the organosilane coupling agent treated bamboo fiber bundle and the low-temperature plasma treated bamboo fiber bundle. The Microdroplet test has
been carried out to measure the interfacial shear strength (IFSS). As a result, the JTSS became higher in using an organosilane-coupling agent than those of the plasma treatment. It was found that the organosilane treatment was effective for the improvement on the interfacial adhesion between the bamboo fiber bundle and the MAPP resin from the results of the Microdroplet test. Then, it was clear in the plasma treatment technique that the nitrogen gas plasma surface
treatment was effective for increasing the IFSS in comparison with the case of the oxygen gas plasma surface treatment and the IFSS increased with the decrease of the plasma treatment time m the nitrogen gas plasma surface treatment. And, all IFSS also decreased as increasing the apparent bamboo fiber bundle's diameter. The adhesion state of MAPP resin onto the surface of the bamboo fiber bundle after the Microdroplet test was investigated by scanning electron micrographs, and it was confirmed that t i e adhesion state became well after the surface treatment.
