Abstract
The load-deflection (P-6) characteristic curve of diaphragm springs (DS), is
extremely non-linear, which determines the feeling of operation and torque
capacity of automobile clutches. Shot-peening is implemented during the
manufacturing process to improve the fatigue life of DS. Usually the
Almen-Laszlo's equation is experimentally adjusted for DS design because of the
variation of P-6 curves due to shot-peening. It is necessary to make some trials in
conjunction with iterations in order to develop new DS. The present study reveals
that the residual stress induced by shot-peening remarkably affects the P-6 curve,
and make it difficult to predict the P-6 curve at the design stage. By using
non-linear FEM analysis, we clarify the
