Abstract

Topology, shape and standard dimension optimization of trusses S. Silih & S. Kravanja University of Maribor, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Slovenia. Abstract The paper presents topolgy, shape and standard dimension optimization of trusses using Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming (MINLP). The discretelcontinuous non-convex and non-linear optimization problems are solved by the Modified OAIER algorithm. Introduced are strategies for solving two different truss optimization problems with a large number of discrete binary 0-1 variables. The first one is simultaneous shape and standard dimension optimization and the second one is topology, shape and standard dimension optimization of trusses. A technique for reducing the number of binary variables is applied. Beside the theoretical aspects, two numerical examples are presented. 1 Introduction The paper presents topology, shape and standard dimension optimization of plane trusses, performed by the Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming (MINLP) appr
