Abstract
Stiffness of reinforced concrete (rlc) structures depend directly on the intensity of
cracks which are accepted in many cases, even for sound rlc structures e.g.
bridges. The loss of stiffhess due to cracks for a rlc structure from intact state to
damage may reach 40-60%. These changes of stiffhess are reflected in the
dynamic properties of the structure, being a good indicator of their actual state.
The purpose of this paper is to report results of an experiment in which two
natural size r/c kames were subjected to progressive damage by seismic
excitations on shaking table. Characteristic decrease of natural frequencies and
increase of structural damping were observed. The shaking table experiment
aimed at working out new methodology for monitoring vibrations of rlc
structures to assess their state and r
