MRF By Using Tube Inversion Devices

Abstract
Tube inversion devices are widely used in industry for attenuation of shock
effects. In this research, a tube inversion device has been used in the braces of a
Moment Resistant Frame (MRF) for absorbing energy. First, the main
disadvantage of a tube inversion device, its limited energy absorbing capacity
due to buckling, was improved by using a support tube. Designing a special
screw-nut system and connecting the braces to the structure by this connection
set improved the other problem of the device, its irreversible deformation. By
implementation of this screw-nut system, the braces worked in tensile mode and
the device was prevented from any reverse loading. The deformation of the
braces was compensated by the connection set but it was adjusted to compensate
for the deformation only when large lateral deformation occurred in the structure.
