Abstract
This paper studies impact energy absorption characteristics using FRP (Fiber
Reinforced Plastics) structures, especially P-u curves. Bamboo, jute and glass
fibers are used as reinforcements. Three fundamental shapes, i.e. hemi-sphere,
truncated-cone and cylinder, are chosen as the unit structures, which are
fabricated by the deep drawning process to conduct impact compression tests
with an impact velocity of up to 15m/s. The three structures are shown to yield
distinct impact energy absorption characteristics corresponding to their buckling
and fracture modes for every reinforcement. Deformation and fracture modes
