Abstract
This paper deals with the response analysis of a rubber vibro-base insulated
building structure, based on a foundation pile structure. An elastic rubber course
separates the upper and lower parts of the foundation plate and the footings. The
structure is loaded by groundborne vibrations from an underground railway
system. The actual history of the dynamic load measured on the pile heads was
used as input data for the design of the vibro-base insulation and for a dynamic
analysis of the structure. The whole bearing structure, subdivided into floor
plates, columns, walls and girders, was taken into account in the structure
calculation model. The rubber bed was modelled as Winkler-Pasternak supports
in the part of the foundation plate and the elastic supports of the columns and
walls. The floor vibrations are predicted and compared with the non-insulated
state of the building. The vibro-base insulated structure fulfils the standard
requirements for limit vibration level for a residential structure. In the
conclusion, the methodology for vibro-base insulation is evaluated.

1 Introduction
The dynamic effects of subsurface traffic propagating through the ground
environment into the ambient buildings of urban agglomerations have been
acquiring ever increasing importance. Construction firms try to use the areas in
the proximity of underground lines because of their lucrative location, usually
