Abstract

Problems of ground water contamination can be defined and remediated using a combination of optimization methods and groundwater flow and transport models. For engineering designs dedicated to contaminant plume containment a linear programming algorithm is adequate. Contaminant concentration constrained problems, however, require a non linear program- ming algorithm for solution. In this case the outer approximation method is particularly well-suited to finding a least-cost design. Both methods have been successfully applied to the optimal design of groundwater remediation solutions to field problems. 1. INTRODUCTION Groundwater contamination remediation costs depend u
