Abstract
Two models for determination of water exchange and of pollutant concentration inside a
marina basin are described. First, a simple compartment model is used to estimate the
concentration of coliforms in the John Wayne Marina (USA). Comparison with
measurements shows that about 20 to 30 % of the normal daily personal pollution should
be expected by the boat users in marinas.
Later, an application of a three-dimensional numeric model to Marina Koper
(Slovenia, N. Adriatic) is presented. This model can give much more information on the
circulation and the spatial distribution of the pollutant concentration, taking into account
the influence of tide, inflow of rivers or pumping, winds as well as of the marina
planform and distribution of openings in the breakwaters.
