The Fate Of A Crude Oil Spill In Simulated
Sub-tropical Ocean Waters

Abstract
Regulatory actions in the USA that, among other materials, address oil and
fuel discharges in water bodies, in addition to an increased transportation of
oils along waters of the South Florida coastlines, have resulted in studies to
understand the processes that affect the fate and transport of oil spills in the
region. This study introduces ongoing efforts to develop experimental facilities
and procedures, and presents preliminary results from the evaluation of
weathered arabian crude samples. Results of laboratory spill simulation
experiments for this type of oil are described and discussed. Implications are
fundamental to the management of oil spills in sub-tropical ocean waters.
