Atmospheric Boundary Layers

Abstract
A coupled adaptive finite element-boundary element-particle transport model is
used to calculate pollutant transport in the atmosphere boundary layer. Using an
h-adaptive technique, the finite element module accurately simulates winds and
species transport over any irregular surface. Using boundary elements and
Lagrangian Particle Transport, dispersion trajectories from pollutant sources can
be calculated from within buildings to venting into the atmosphere. The model
combination is ideal for problems involving large-scale dimensions, but needing
local, refined solutions near important surface locations.
