Acoustic Insulation Of A Solid Panel Submerged In Fluid Media

Abstract
This work describes the computation of the acoustic insulation provided by an infinite solid steel panel placed so as to separate a water medium from an air space, when subjected to a spatially sinusoidal harmonic line pressure load. The analytical solutions derived avoid any simplification, such as restricting the panel thickness, imposed by the Kirchhoff or Mindlin theories, and they fully account for the interaction between the two types of fluid (water and air) and the solid panel.
Different computer simulations were performed on a variety of wall thickness. The acoustic source was placed on the water-fluid side, and the receivers were placed within the air-fluid space. The computations are first performed in the frequency domain, and inverse Fourier transforms are then used to obtain time solutions.
