Abstract

An approach for adjustment of defects in constitutive models is presented. First, the parameters in an initial model are determined from a measured dis- placement field and the residuals are analysed. If the residuals are unaccept- able, a set of candidate model extensions is specified. From this set, the 'best' model extension is selected by performing a sensitivity analysis. By means of numerical simulations, it is shown that this approach can be applied to find the 'best' model for a class of inhomogeneous materials in a fast way. 1 Introduction. To characterise the mechanical behaviour of a material quantitatively, a constitutive model must be chosen and the parameters in this model must be determined. In
