Abstract
Two-dimensional plane strain finite element analyses have been used to develop J
estimation equations for single-edge-notch specimens subjected to fixed-grip tensile
loading from experimentally measured quantities, notably area under load vs. plastic
load line displacement (A^LD ) and area under load vs. plastic crack mouth opening
displacement (A^Moo )• It was found that J estimation from A^MOD is much more
reliable than from A^LD since dependence on strain hardening coefficient is much
reduced in the former case.
