A Higher-order Finite Element To Model

Abstract
A higher-order two-dimensional finite element that can be used to model a general
power type singularity is presented. The element is compatible with the standard
12-noded isoparametric elements. This leads to reducing the number of elements
required to model a structure. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the developed
element, two cracked-structures are analysed, namely, an edge crack and a crack
perpendicular to the interface problem. The results obtained using the proposed
element are compared with those obtained using other existing elements in the
literature. Those comparisons demonstrate the superiority of the technique in
reducing the number of elements and nodes required for accurate results.
