Abstract
For two- and three-dimensional elastoplastic stress analysis of frictional contact
problems, an effective analysis method using a combination of the boundary
element method (BEM) and mathematical programming (MP) approach is
presented. The assumptions of small displacement and elastic perfectly plastic
material behavior obeying the von Mises or Tresca criteria with associated flow
rule are made. Not only are the contact boundary conditions expressed as a linear
complementarity problem (LCP) with penalty factors in accordance with the
analogy with plasticity, but the elastoplastic constitutive equations also are
presented in the similar form. Based on these formulations and on a field BEM
that uses the particular integrals, a unified LCP is derived to solve the
